The normally functioning human body is capable of removing body wastes. The present day medical practitioners recommend carrying out of colon cleanse  only in the situations of preparing the patient for colonoscopy procedure.
It is considered that the process colon cleansing regularly is likely to be disrupting the natural balance which exists between the intestinal flora and naturally occurring chemicals in the bowels. Colon cleansing also has the possibility of interfering with the colon’s natural ability in shedding the dead cells.
There are some serious complications like gastro-intestinal perforation may take place rarely due to wrong insertion of the enema cannulla insertion by non professional persons carrying out enema at home. There could also be introduction of amoebic infection due to no sterilization or poor sterilization of enema before use.
Some colon cleansing practices are likely cause disruption in the fluid electrolyte balance maintained by body necessary for proper body functioning, which can be cause of dehydration conditions due to salt depletion.
